Happy Valentine’s Day Dear Husband,
This day can bring upon two completely different sets of emotions. It’s either a day full of love and joy, or a day of sadness and despair. Today, the latter is what I am feeling. This morning as I got ready for another day of work on the Norwegian Sky cruise ship, I quickly shook that thought from my mind when I looked out my stateroom window to see we had arrived at port on Grand Bahama Island. Outside my room, guests were excitedly heading for a day of relaxing in the sun on the beautiful island. Back on the ship, activities throughout the day included couples’ devotionals, autograph sessions, a movie sneak preview, and much more. I could not bring myself to attend any of these activities today, knowing that what I would hear would only remind me of our broken situation.
Later in the day, I ran into this couple on the elevator and we started talking about their cruise experience. It was their first time on a cruise and they were having a wonderful time—they even said they could not wait to sign up for next year’s cruise! As the day went on, I heard more people say how much fun they were having and how great the sessions have been. A particular story stands out in my mind—a story of redemption. This couple had struggled so much in their marriage—affairs, addiction, anger, etc. They got to the point where they had nowhere else to turn except to God. Both separately, then as a couple, they started to build a personal relationship with Christ. He eventually restored their marriage and now they’re serving as family and marriage counselors at their church. They continue to come on the FamilyLife Love Like You Mean It Marriage Cruise because of the powerful impact it proves to have on their marriage every year. Their story gave me the hope I needed to keep believing in our marriage. God is bigger than our problems. Maybe tomorrow I will venture into one of the sessions and open my heart to what God has to say.
Sweet Dreams,
Your Wife
