True Life Confessions of a Travel Agent

Thank You.
Thank you to the men and women who daily give up their personal preferences to go and fight. To fight for the land they call home, to fight for the fundamentals this country was based on, to fight for the pursuit of happiness. In this day and age we are in I think we are so quick to forget about the sacrifices that are daily made by our men and women in uniform. We forget that they are overseas today to above all protect those who are unable to protect themselves, people who are not our fellow country men, but a people who are generally feared and/or hated for the actions of just a few of their fellow country men. I heard a story of a soldier in Iraq today, the unstable city of Bagdad was under siege and this specific soldier was carrying wounded soldiers from the city to a medical helicopter a safe distance from where the fighting was taking place. On this soldiers trek to and from the city there was a media crew who would call at him trying to get information about what is going on in Bagdad. This went on for quite awhile, on his 4th or 5th trip from the city to the helicopter carrying wounded soldiers each time the person he was carrying was wearing different clothing that the usual soldiers that he carried, this soldier was an Iraqi soldier who was fighting against the Americans. The media crew started yelling at the soldier carrying this Iraqi soldier, making fun of him asking him if he needs glasses to see who is who out there, and can he not tell the difference in his own men and the men they are fighting. The soldier gestured to them, yelling back one statement that silenced their insults, “This is what separates us from them”. America makes me proud, we cannot lose the spirit that this soldier has within him, a spirit of compassion, one that reaches out to help anyone in need. He is not biased in his mercy; he is an example to us all. Give me the Americans with the heart of this soldier and I can make it through and issues or drama on Capitol Hill. As long as we have people in this country with this heart and compassion we’ll make it through just fine! Rise up America and be proud and who we are, what we stand for, and what we were founded on, and hopefully we will continually make out way back to where we started.
Blessings,

McKenzie
