This is by far my favorite question asked by the very energetic 5 year olds I used to entertain during Christmas play practice. The most obvious answer is "everywhere". But, as adults, do we really take time to understand what this means? It’s so easy to fall into the "swing of things" without really taking time to meditate on what really matters. I compare this to my days in the office fully frustrated at a computer program for once again deciding its purpose in life is to humiliate me by deleting instead of downloading information. My first inclination is to throw the computer out the door, monitor and all. Or maybe let it dangle out the window by the cord as it screams for mercy. I’m sure many of you could compare this frustration to a kid that just won't stop screaming, or that test that messed up my average and caused a fight with my parents, or even that slow customer at the grocery store that just didn’t understand how important your schedule is for the day. How do we see God through it all?
My favorite season, fall, taught me something very important about how we can see God where we least expect. I wanted to share with you what I found. Psalm 19:1 reads, “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky proclaims His handiwork.” It’s so easy to overlook how wonderful and perfect God’s creation is to us.
So, where do I see God? I see God in the sky. It doesn’t sound like much but let me explain. I see God in a rainbow painting a cloudy sky after a sad rain fall. I remember God’s promise in a rainbow addressed in Genesis 9:13. God is faithful to us. I see God in an orange sunset stretching outward in my rearview mirror as I trek home. With sincere wisdom, God knew what was best for our lives creating days, months, seasons, and a perfect timeline. God is merciful to us. I see God in a black sky covered in tiny jewels beckoning a wide eye and a telescope. Psalm 136:9, “The moon and the stars rule the night, for his steadfast love endures forever.” God’s love shines every night for us.
So when simple things try to control my attitude, maybe I should try to remember the most beautiful representation I can know and understand of God, our creation. That’s what’s really important.
Oh yeah, I also see God in a sapphire sea rolling gently over white sand as I sleep peacefully in my hammock. My God is the Savior of peace and I couldnt be more thankful for Him.
What about you? Where do you see God?
