Radio Station of the Month (cont. from page 1)

BACK TO MAIN PAGE

Q. How long have you at WCQR been working with Premier? What do you think the two organizations have in common? (mission, purpose, etc.)

A. It seems like we've been working with Premier from the very beginning days of our ministry back in 1996.  Our parent company, Positive Alternative Radio Inc. had a working relationship with Premier already and suggested that we could help each other by working together.  We're so busy doing the radio stuff we have to do everyday that it's great to partner with Premier.

Q. What are some of the exciting things to promote at WCQR these days?

A. WCQR continues to grow.  God has really blessed us in the eight years we've been on the air.  We are currently looking to expand our staff by adding a new morning show team member.  Know anybody looking for a morning show gig????

Q. Your station recently received the Gospel Music Association Medium Market Radio Station of the Year Award for the THIRD year in a row. Wow. Tell me about that.

A. Yeah, three years in a row...woooohooo!  I've got to give credit to the Lord most importantly and to my outstanding team.  God has blessed us with very talented people who love the Lord and know how to use their gifts in their particular area to make a great team.  Great people make a great team and we've got all the right people on the right bus and we're all headed in the same direction.  We've used that "Good to Great" mentality to take it to the next level.

Q. Why did you want to partner with Premier on promoting The Music Boat 2005? What do you think is unique about concerts on a cruise?

A. A cruise is my favorite vacation!  I love everything about a cruise, the ports, the food, the pampering, and it's a very simple way to have a great vacation.  The ONLY thing I don't like about a typical cruise is the shows at night. And when you're on a ship, their entertainment is the only entertainment.  That's why a Christian music cruise is perfect. We get all the benefits of cruising along with great concerts at night.  You can't beat that combination!!

Q. What do you think makes your station unique or a favorite among listeners?

A. We're friends that you've hung out with for the last eight years.  You know us and our kids and all about our lives.  We see you at church, the store and at local events.  We're a family and we hang out with your family.  We're also a group of professionals who are very passionate about what we do. We want to do great radio!  I was in secular radio for 15 years before my crossover to Christian radio.  It was always my dream to combine my love for the Lord with my love for radio and now I get to live my dream everyday.

Q. Anything else?

A. Hey, thanks again for this great honor.  I really look forward to hanging out with you guys in September.  If you're looking for me on The Music Boat I'll be snorkeling in the crystal clear waters or hanging out at the chocolate buffet!  See you there!

Premier's Wendy Gray (cont. from page 1)

Although Gentry and Morgan act as producers for the majority of Premier’s concerts, Gray occasionally assists them onsite.

Married to Dr. Lavon Gray for 17 years, she and her husband have two children: Kayla, 15, and Lorin, 12.

Cruising with Premier Christian Cruises on all of their music cruises so far, Gray calls the adventures - part of the job.

“It takes all of our staff to make sure that things run as smoothly as possible for each cruise,” she said. “It's not a vacation for us. However, it's very rewarding to see the passengers enjoy what we work so hard planning.”

It’s the people – inside and outside the company - that make her work with Premier worthwhile, Gray said.

“Working for Premier puts me in contact with all age groups and with people from all walks of life,” she said. “I believe that Premier has been successful because it was built and operates on Christian principles.  We operate as a family to get a job done.  It's very much a team effort.”
